Fred was rushed to hospital and made a recovery.The Black Hood took a lot of the focus of season two and served as the primary antagonist over the course of the cycle.He was initially unmasked as Mr Svenson (Cameron McDonald) around the midseason finale and shot dead by Sheriff Keller (Martin Cummins).Once the killings started again - with poor Midge Klump (Emilija Baranac) becoming one of his victims - it was clear that the wrong person had gone down.Eventually, Hal Cooper (Lochlyn Munro) was revealed to be the one bumping off the sinners of Riverdale and ended up in prison.The long-lost Cooper son Chic (Hart Denton) returned to Riverdale after a long spell away and reconnected with the family.But after he started acting strangely and refused a DNA test, Betty Cooper (Lili Reinhart) did her own digging and learnt he wasn’t Chic.The fake Chic revealed that he was simply friends with the real Cooper son and really called Charles.According to Charles, the real Chic had died after the pair got into a fight and he’d decided to pretend to be his former friend.Following the confession, fans met Dark Betty again who handed Charles over to Black Hood, who chased him through a cemetery.Season two was a major one for Cheryl Blossom (Madeleine Petsch), who went on an incredible character arc.She embarked on a relationship with Southside Serpent Toni Topaz (Vanessa Morgan) with fans fondly dubbing the couple “Choni”.Toni joined the school after Southside High was shut down and merged with Riverdale High.Sadly, Cheryl’s mother Penelope Blossom (Nathalie Boltt) committed her to the Sisters of Quiet Mercy where she was forced to undergo gay conversation therapy until she was saved.Luckily, she was rescued and cut off ties with her family as she became a Southside Serpent.Hiram established his stranglehold over Riverdale after he essentially put his wife Hermione Lodge (Marisol Nichols) in city hall.He then held a meeting with his business associates as he planned to set up a number of enterprises including a brothel.In a homage to Edgar Allan Poe, the Cooper clan were covering up a murder after Betty came home to find her mother and long-lost brother Chic cleaning up a body.She was then roped into helping cover up the killing and hide the body but she suffered deeply from the guilt.In a bid to ingratiate himself with his girlfriend’s family, Archie did some dirty business for mobster Hiram Lodge (Mark Consuelos).However, after realising how deep the corruption went, Archie turned against Hiram.Unfortunately, it didn’t end well for Archie who was subsequently framed for murder by Hiram and dragged away by the police in front of the whole school.One of the biggest moments in season two was a gangland fight between the Serpents and the Ghoulies.Jughead tried to play peacemaker by sacrificing himself and got badly beaten up but was eventually fine.His father FP Jones (Skeet Ulrich) retired from the Serpents and named him the new king of the gang.In order to help Hermione’s mayoral campaign, Hiram stoked up tensions with different sides and prove that Riverdale needed a firm leader to restore order.
